Basic Pest Management in the School and Child Care Settings is designed for childcare providers and staff, volunteers, school district staff, teachers, custodians, or food service workers. It covers the required topics of Integrated Pest Management (IPM), safe use of pesticides in relation to the unique nature of school sites and children's health, and the Healthy Schools Act requirements.
School maintenance, operations, and facilities staff are required to take Integrated Germ Management found on the California Department of Pesticide Regulations School and Child Care Integrated Pest Management's website. Integrated Germ Management is an introductory course designed for people who mainly use antimicrobial pesticides, like sanitizers and disinfectants, at schools and childcare centers. Integrated Germ Management may best fit childcare providers, teachers, custodians, and food service workers, who clean and disinfect as part of their regular job duties.

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) coordinators and anyone who may apply a pesticide at a school or a childcare center must take a Department of Pesticide Regulations (DPR)‐approved training course annually before using a pesticide. This includes but is not limited to disinfecting wipes, sanitizers, and weed killers.
